This is a great essay. I think shedding light on the process behind the work is as important as the work itself. As Monica said, “every conclusion I attempted to reach became another enquiry” is a profound insight. I think that’s why philosophy is based on discussions instead of reaching one absolute truth. I also found the part where you spoke of your unfinished work very resonating. Art and creativity is a process that shouldn’t be rushed. Thank you for sharing your work and insights with us Nick.

Nick, what a wonderful essay. I especially appreciated your thought that “almost every conclusion I attempted to reach became another beginning.” I think that’s one of the signs of genuine inquiry. The deeper we explore an idea, the more we discover beneath it. I also love the way you describe drafts as “the work beneath the work.” Sometimes the unfinished pages are doing just as much shaping as the ones we eventually publish. Looking forward to Worthy Ends.
